A PASSION TO SUPPORT OTHERS
I spark insights and serve as a trusted advisor and loyal supporter for the momentum that follows.
My work spans the topics of business and life. My clients include business leaders, professional musicians and artists, entrepreneurs, ultra-high-net-worth individuals, and teams in multinational corporations. I also work in a personal development capacity to support clients in or following treatment for addiction, depression & anxiety and other mental health conditions.
I deliver on my passion to serve by mentoring and coaching, supporting the development of teams, speaking at corporate events and conferences, and writing books and articles.
At a personal level, aviation is a key part of my life, as well as spending time in nature and playing musical instruments. I have written several books on mind training and running and enjoy swimming in Swiss lakes year-round, even when that means cutting into ice to get in. Following a successful corporate career, I launched my full-time coaching practice in 2010 and have worked with some amazing clients, athletes, leaders and coaches ever since.
DRAWING FROM EXPERIENCES
My perspective and coaching approach is not based on a career in professional sports competition or a handful of coaching certifications.
Rather, it is based on nearly 3 decades of enduring and overcoming the Struggle in myself and others.
My life coaching and mentoring speciality grew out of profound experiences in ultra endurance sports, yoga and aviation, as well as a prior successful corporate career working and living internationally.
My approach to transformation and overcoming adversity draws from personal experiences in extreme endurance events, such as the Marathon des Sables (a weeklong stage race through the Moroccan Sahara), Ironman Hawaii, and Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc (a 166KM extremely mountainous run in the Alps), as well as ultra distance open water swims, mountaineering expeditions, and a major weight loss and lifestyle transformation.
I also integrate perspectives learned from a decade of teaching yoga and meditation; coaching military athletes from 7 countries, police units and sports teams; and walking the walk via my own Bucket List adventures, from song-writing to flying to skydiving.
In 2018, I published Run Faster: Unlock Your Speed in 8 Weeks for SEAL Grinder PT and Hill Running: Survive & Thrive. My two latest writing projects Running Heavy and UltraRunning: Coach’s Guide launched in early 2020.
I fully embraced a philosophy of “Do what you love” in 2010 by leaving a successful 18-year corporate career to focus full time on coaching and writing. I then founded Hillseeker GmbH, a Switzerland-based firm that delivers coaching guidance, books, and content to a global audience and motivational speaking to groups and companies. I launched the Flow State® coaching series of books in 2016, starting with Flow State Runner, the winner of the 2018 Next Generation Indie Book Awards Best Book Award in Health and Wellness.
Turning experiences into coaching guidance to help others
Professionally, I am a coach, motivational speaker, and team builder. Purely for joy, I am an adventure athlete, musician, and private pilot. I am also an active supporter of charity work in Malawi and Cambodia as a Board of Directors member at the nonprofit Face-to-Face Project.
I am a qualified yoga teacher, with over 600 hours of teacher education, 2,000+ hours of teaching and 20+ years of practice. I ran a CrossFit gym and functional training center for 5+ years, completing numerous training certifications along the way, and studied the Pose Method® directly from Dr. Nicolas Romanov. I built and ran the Hillseeker® online coaching business for 10+ years and have coached hundreds of runners in workshops in Switzerland and the US. I also enjoy playing trombone, guitar, and African drums, as well as dancing Lindy Hopp.
In 2010, I branched out from traditional endurance sports to complete the grueling SEALFIT Kokoro Camp, a 50-hour non-stop, no-sleep crucible modeled after the US Navy SEAL’s Hell Week and designed to teach mental toughness and test participant’s limits across many spectrums. I eventually earned a unique civilian instructor position in the cadre for this grueling and transformational mental and physical challenge. I coached at 15 of these events over a period of five years, learning an immense amount from the talented team of coaches and the hundreds of athletes I worked with during these crucible moments.
I am drawn to building virtual bridges across cultures, language barriers, and phases of life. This bridge-building was not only a focus in my corporate career, but also present daily in my speaking, mentoring and coaching work.
